About

The Observatory of Animal Experimentation (OXA) was founded in November 2024 in response to the long-standing stagnation of public debate on this issue. While laboratories have recently claimed to be more transparent, these promises rarely materialize. When the public seeks access to inspection results, project evaluations, or the actual experiences of animals, they quickly run into bureaucratic barriers and well-polished doublespeak

The founding president of OXA, Nicolas Marty (https://experimentation-animale.info), has specialized in this field for years. The association’s work is carried out with the help of dedicated volunteers committed to achieving its goals and relies on expert advisors from various disciplines.

Research

OXA aims to compile data on current animal experimentation practices, their regulatory frameworks, their impact on animals, access to information on these topics, and the related scientific, societal, and ethical debates, particularly in France and Europe.

Information

OXA seeks to inform the general public through popular education and make information and documents available to governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as elected officials.

Public advocacy

OXA aims to engage with decision-makers in support of any measures that, in particular, facilitate public access to comprehensive information on these issues, accelerate the transition away from animal experimentation, and/or promote the reorientation of affected personnel and organizations.

OXA’s central project at the moment is the establishment of a Documentation Center. Its goal is to compile academic and regulatory documents on animal experimentation into an accessible and user-friendly database.

Access to information will be enhanced through document categorization and the digitization of their content.

For now, the Documentation Center’s content is available in French only.
